Just got home from work today and realized that there is going to be a meteor shower tonight.
I’m now on a mission, i need to find the best place to watch meteor shower here in San Diego !!
Leonid Meteor Shower November 2009 started November 13 and will last until November 20, and will peak in intensity early morning on November 17.
The best time to view the Leonid meteor shower will be after 11:30 am PST and before sunrise. The meteors will hopefully be visible because the moon will be entering it’s new moon phase just in time for the meteor shower.
“We’re predicting 20 to 30 meteors per hour over the Americas, and as many as 200 to 300 per hour over Asia,” says Bill Cooke of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office. “Our forecast is in good accord with independent theoretical work by other astronomers.” The meteors are born as earth passes through the debris left by the comet Temple Tuttle. As earth’s gravity pulls the small rocks towards itself the small rocks pass through earth’s atmosphere. Their speed is increased to thousands of mile per hour. The high speed creates friction with air and a burning meteor is born. From afar these burning rocks look like shooting stars.
so anyways, i was searching for a place in san diego so that i can go watch this meteor shower or atleast have an idea of a place to go for future meteor shower events.
Here are some places i have found, please add to the post if you have better suggestions. Cheers~
